Elbow
An Elbow is a pipe fitting installed between two lengths of pipe, to change the direction of flow of a piping system. Typically, Elbows are either 90° or 45°, with the inside diameter being a continuous bend. An Elbow with a 180° radius is called a Return.
Elbows typically have the same NPS connection on both sides. Reducing Elbows are available when connection between pipes of differing sizes is required. However, this will result in a change in pressure and should be used with caution.
James Duva, Inc. supplies butt weld Elbows in a variety of pipe schedules and sizes. We also supply threaded and socket weld Elbows in standard 150# and SP-114 castings, and forged pressure classes up to 6000#. We stock stainless, alloy and carbon steel Elbows that will meet all of your requirements.
Long Radius (LR) & Short Radius (SR)
Butt weld 90° Elbows are manufactured in two distinct varieties, defined by the distance over which they change the direction of the pipe line. The center line of one end to the opposite face is known as the center-to-face distance, and is equivalent to the radius of which the elbow is bent.
The center-to-face distance for a Long Radius (LR) 90° Elbow is 1.5 x NPS. The center-to-face distance for a Short Radius (SR) 90° Elbow is 1 x NPS.
Pipe medium will travel a greater distance within a LR 90° Elbow, with less turbulence and pressure loss than within a SR 90° Elbow. However, the SR 90° Elbow can fit in a tighter space, which is typically why it would be used.
45° Elbows are only available in one radius, that being the same as the radius of a LR 90° (1.5 x NPS).
Elbows are used for many types of applications. Whatever your requirements, James Duva, Inc. is the supplier you can count on. Call us today..
