Gate Valve

Designed for fully-open or fully-closed service, Gate valves, which are also known as Sluice valves, are installed in pipelines for isolation, and are not used to control or regulate flow.

Gate valves open by lifting a barrier, or gate, out of the path of the fluid. Designed to require very little space along the pipe axis, and typically used when minimal pressure loss and a free bore is needed, Gate valves do not obstruct flow when the gate is fully opened.

Oftentimes operated via actuation, the valve stem is rotated and the gate moves upward or downward. Because they require multiple turns of the stem to open and close, Gate valves open and close rather slowly, which tends to prevent water hammer effects.

Gate valves are available in two primary types, those being parallel and wedge. While gate faces are most commonly wedge-shaped, which allows them to efficiently apply pressure on the seat, the parallel, or knife gate is designed with a sharp bottom edge and are especially useful when handling slurry, viscous, corrosive and abrasive media.

James Duva, Inc. offers a full line of Gate valves, in many material grades and pressure classes, with or without actuation, built by manufacturers you trust. Whatever your specific needs, call us today.
