Lateral/Wye

Laterals and Wyes are types of fittings that are similar to Tees. While a Tee has a straight run with a branch at 90°, the Lateral’s branch is at 45°. The Wye has a straight run that terminates in two 45° branches, and when stood vertically, has the appearance of the letter Y.

Also like a Tee, Laterals and Wyes are used to join two lines in a piping system, or, with a flow in the reverse direction, to divide a line into two.

James Duva, Inc. supplies socket weld and threaded Laterals in forged pressure classes up to 9000#, in a complete range of Carbon Steel, Stainless and Alloy grades, and Non-ferrous metals certified to ASTM, ASME, and Military standards.

Wyes are more commonly available in butt weld.

Y-Strainers are a type of pipe fitting used for mechanically removing unwanted solids from a liquid, gas or steam line by means of a perforated or wire mesh straining element. They are shaped like a Lateral, with the 45° branch housing the straining element and being terminated at the end. Used in pipelines to protect pumps, meters, control valves, steam traps, regulators and other process equipment, this type of fitting is similar to other to Laterals in shape only.
