Union

A Union is a type of pipe fitting designed to unite two pipes, and can be detached without causing any deformation, being easily disjointed. They’re typically used when joining two pipes that are fixed in place and cannot be turned. Unions are very similar to Couplings, except Unions can be unscrewed into two separate pieces, then screwed back together when both separated ends are attached to their respective pipes and finally joined.

In order to connect a threaded Union, thread the male half of the Union nut onto a pipe and securely tighten. Then, slip the ring nut portion of the Union onto the second pipe with the threads facing outward. Screw on the other half of the Union nut, and securely tighten.

While Unions are most-often manufactured with threaded ends, they’re also available in socket weld for permanent installation where disassembly is not anticipated or required.

Unions are available in standard 150# and SP-114 castings, and forged pressure classes up to 9000#. James Duva, Inc. supplies Unions in a complete range of carbon steels, stainless and alloy, and non-ferrous metals certified to ASTM, ASME, and Military standards. Give us a call today.
